For horses consuming long stemmed forage, Alfalfa Gastric Support Pellets may be fed in addition to the regular feed ration. Adjust the amount fed depending on activity level and body condition of the horse.
This product may also be used as partial or total forage replacement (e.g., horses with limited/no access to pasture, when a low starch and sugar forage is recommended, horses with poor dentition, etc.) up to the maximum servings (6) of Outlast® noted below. If additional forage is needed, utilize a forage source that does not contain Outlast®. Ideally, horses should be fed 1.2 – 2.5% of their body weight in total forage per day. If appropriate, a portion of the horse’s diet should include long stemmed roughage to help reduce boredom and stall vices.
Three pounds of Alfalfa Gastric Support Pellets supply one full serving of Outlast® Gastric Support Technology for an average 1,100 lb. horse. See table for recommendations based on your horse’s body weight.
Many Purina® horse products contain Outlast® Gastric Support Technology. Consult feeding directions for those products to determine the total number of servings of Outlast® being provided to your horse. Do not feed more than 6 total servings of Outlast® per day from all sources.
For hydration, aggressive eaters, or for horses with dental concerns, soak pellets in water using a minimum of 3:1 ratio (3 parts water to 1 part pellets). Allow pellets to soak until they reach your preferred consistency before feeding. For best soaking results, soak pellets in warm water (100°F).
Purina® Forage Alfalfa Gastric Support Pellets are designed to help meet a horse's roughage requirements while supporting gastric comfort with trusted OUTLAST® technology. Made with pelleted alfalfa, they provide an easy way to add quality forage to your horse's diet. The low starch and sugar formula is suitable for horses with sensitivity to non-structural carbohydrates. EASY-SOAK™ Pellet Technology allows the pellets to soften quickly in water, creating a soft mash that is easy to chew and helps support hydration. Added natural vitamin E provides antioxidant and immune support. Developed by PhD equine nutritionists. May be used as a partial or total forage replacement. Use only as directed.
